Wedding favors are a thoughtful way for couples to show their gratitude to famiy and friends that graciously attended their wedding day. Wedding favors are small tokens of appreciation that couples give out to their wedding guests that came to celebrate their wedding with them. History of Wedding Favors
The history of wedding favors dates back several centuries to upper class families in European countries. People believed that weddings were a fortunate occasion and that the giving of wedding favors by the groom and bride was a way of sharing that luck to family and friends. French and Italian families would hand out ‘bonbonnieres’ to guests as wedding favors. These confectionery delicacies were placed in small fancy boxes made of metal, crystal or porcelain. The boxes were also decorated with precious stones that created a keepsake for guests.
Later on, other social classes took on the tradition of giving wedding favors to their guests. Almonds were popular wedding favors given by couples in the earlier days. People believed that the almonds represented longevity, happiness, wealth, health and fertility. Still today, almonds are a common wedding favor given by couples in the form of candy-coated almonds.
Modern Day Wedding Favors
Wedding favors are now an essential part of the preparations for the wedding day. Couple have limitless choices for wedding favors in all price ranges. Wedding favors can be purchased online, in stores or made by hand. They can be customized or personalized with the names of the couple and their wedding date.
Wedding favors can be useful tokens such as salt and pepper shakers, coasters, mousepads or coffee mugs. Couples can choose favors that fit their wedding theme or season. For an Autumn wedding, these personalized wedding magnets make a nice keepsake.
Creative couples can use their resourcefulness to craft their own wedding favors. The bride and groom’s favorite songs can be recorded on CD’s and shared with guests.
In an effort to “give back”, some couples are choosing to give Wedding Kindness Cards. A Wedding Kindness Card is put at each guest’s place setting and states that in lieu of a traditional wedding favor, a donation has been made in the guest’s name to the bride and groom’s favorite charity.
So, as you can see, there are many option to choose from for wedding favors to say ‘thank you’ to your guests for attending your special day.
